The 2009 Indoor Concert Series - St. Patrick's Day Program
March 22, 2009
The second in a series of three winter concerts by the Karl L. King Municipal Band of Fort Dodge was the traditional Irish Concert, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
Many familiar Irish songs were performed, including everyone’s favorite, McNamara’s Band, as arranged by former conductor Reginald R. Schive.
Other Irish selections on the program included Strains from Erin as arranged by Lucien Cailliet, Gaelic Rhapsody by Elliot Del Borgo, and a collection of Irish songs, An Irish Suite for Band, by Charles Richard Spinney.
Several march selections also were performed, including Spirit of Minstrelsy, and Monahan Post by Karl L. King, along with The Irish Brigade by John W. Casto and The Boys of the Old Brigade by W. Paris Chambers.
A popular selection, in addition to McNamara’s Band, was Old Timer’s Waltz, by M. L. Lake.
Roger Netz, a member of the Saxophone section, led the audience in a sing-along of the traditional Irish favorites, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling and My Wild Irish Rose.
This concert closed with our national anthem, The Star-spangled Banner.
