This 4X7 oil painting on masonite was recently received from the artist, Mrs. Charlotte Chuckie Tomlinson.  She painted it for the opening of an ice cream shop on Central Avenue, Fort Dodge.  It shows a summer concert scene in the old bandshell in the downtown square with Karl King conducting.  Neither the bandshell or the hotel pictured at right survives today.

Postcard sent to Karl by Paul Yoder

Dear Karl and Ruth,
We have heard bands from Japan to Fiji.  They all know you and play your music. We are hearing Morreltown Twp with the Volkweins.  I thought I was a drummer till I got here.  Now I see I don't have the hair for it.
Regards, Paul and Rosie
